The mediating effect of mothers" dysfunctional parenting thoughts in the process of the parenting stress perception related to their children"s externalizing behavior problems

Abstract
The purpose of this study was how to evaluate the mediating effect of dysfunctional parenting thoughts in the pathways from children"s externalizing behavior problems to mothers" parenting stress with mothers" depressive feelings. A total of 384 mothers of elementary school were surveyed on those variables. Those variables were correlated significantly with each others. Especially, parenting stress were correlated with children"s externalizing problem behavior .71, and with dysfunctional parenting thoughts .69, Through path-analysis, dysfunctional thoughts effected on parenting stress and mothers" depressive feelings significantly on the standardized coefficient as .41, and .42 on each variable. The superior path model showed NFI .99, RFI .98, IFI .99, TFI .99, TLI .99, CFI .99, RMSEA .05. Finally, therapeutic implications based on these results discussed.
